Day 3: Content Outlines - What does your website say?
04 March 2010
A website is a salesperson that speaks for your company. Look at what is written on your website and ask, "What is my website saying?" Is your website a good representative for your company? Below we have outlined content changes and explanations for participants in our 10-Day Website Makeover Project.
The Content Outline Process: review what they/competitors had, select an appropriate focus, add the missing parts. Note that you can always do more, but this is a good start. Check back next week as we roll out the new stories starting March 8, 2010.

Focus On Service - There are a surprising number of business websites that focus on their products, but never say why you should buy from them. The new messaging for Affordable Printing will start with the service promise, de-emphasizing the overwhelming number of products that can be accessed. It's the people that matter, not the products.

Credibility - TripleScoop has an impressive portfolio of big corporate clients, but you would never know it from their old site. The new site will spotlight case studies, papers, and what they can do for you. We are also adding a special content feature: a microblog for the home page. This is a place where they can comment on their activities with the research community and other success stories. Both RMR and Private Title Loans will be getting similar microblogs.

First Impressions - The new site for RMR will feature a home page story about the benefits of their service. Their most common products will be featured in the navigation with a full page dedicated to each. The original site never mentioned the service aspect of their business and contained only an unexplained list of products.

Stability - Private Title Loans and Rocky Mountain Reserve both had the infamous GoDaddy "Website Tonight" logo on the bottom. From a content perspective this says, "We started yesterday and we could be gone tomorrow." The new content line up for Private Title Loans includes more information on loans and the emerging peer-to-peer lending industry.
